The Boundaries of Molar Distalization in View of Evidence
AbstractMolar distalization is a key non-extraction approach in orthodontic treatment, yet its success is influenced by anatomical constraints, patient-specific factors, and biomechanical considerations. Understanding the limitations imposed by structures such as the maxillary tubercle and mandibular retromolar space is essential for achieving safe and predictable outcomes. Additionally, skeletal patterns, vertical facial type, and third molar status further impact the feasibility and extent of distalization. This sharing is an evidence-based overview of the feasibility and limitations of molar distalization. Key considerations such as posterior anatomical constraints, variations in available space, and potential side effects will be discussed. The goal is to provide insights into optimizing treatment strategies, improving predictability, and minimizing risks—ultimately guiding more effective and patient-centered orthodontic care.
