Tackling the Brodie Bite: Overcoming the Challenges
AbstractAlthough Brodie bites are relatively rare malocclusions, they pose considerable difficulties in effective management. Timely diagnosis is critical, as treatment is significantly less complex in the early stages. As craniofacial growth progresses, managing these cases becomes increasingly challenging. This presentation will examine a range of Brodie bite cases, showcasing varying levels of complexity and illustrating diverse orthodontic treatment strategies from deciduous to permanent dentition, addressing issues from single-tooth involvement to compromised quadrants. We will delve into mechanical treatment alternatives, including standard fixed appliances and the strategic application of skeletal anchorage, depending on the specific type of Brodie bite. 3D asymmetry animations will be utilized to enhance understanding. The overarching conclusion is that Brodie bites require immediate attention upon identification. The fundamental takeaway is that early intervention is crucial, as normal craniofacial development will not resolve this malocclusion and, in fact, will likely compound the problem.
