Abstract

In recent years, the field of aesthetic dentistry has experienced a renaissance, with the emergence of innovative techniques and materials that prioritize aesthetics. This heightened awareness has led dental practitioners to adopt more organized and systematic approaches when handling anterior aesthetic zone cases. To achieve highly aesthetic and predictable treatment outcomes, it is essential for practitioners to develop a comprehensive understanding of the treatment plans, challenges, and limitations associated with this area, while maintaining a focus on minimally invasive and biologically sound philosophies. This lecture will delve into evidence-based clinical knowledge, empowering dental professionals to successfully navigate the complexities of anterior aesthetic zone cases.

Biography

Dr Lim earned his dentistry degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Malaya. He completed his full-time residency training in Prosthodontics at Guy's Hospital Dental Institute, King's College London, as a MoHE scholar. In 2012, he passed the Membership in Prosthodontics Examination at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Dr Lim furthered his education with a Fellowship in Advanced Periodontology and Implantology from the University of Genova, Italy in 2016 and participated in the IDCMR Faculty Exchange Programme in Prosthodontics at Mahidol University, Thailand in 2019. Since 2013, Dr Lim has been a registered prosthodontist under the National Specialist Register and the Dental Act 2018 in Malaysia as of 2022. He currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Restorative Dental Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. With over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr Lim has also secured 13 research grants as a principal and co-investigator. His achievements include more than 40 awards for research, teaching and learning, invention, innovation, and design. Dr Lim previously held the position of President for the Malaysian Association of Aesthetic Dentistry (2020-2021) and maintains research interests in removable denture biofilm analysis, the Dahl concept, and dental education.
